Not so much

Turns out that Sketch Up 7 mostly runs in Wine. Enough things were non-functional or caused crashes that I installed it on the kids' iBook so I can learn it instead of debugging it in an unsupported environment. Meh. Oh well, I learn that and the finer points of Quark this summer in a probably vain attempt to pick up a class or two to teach next year. Budget woes mean next year is going to suck all around at the CSU.

On the road again

Turns out that Sketch Up 7 will run in Wine, which makes me pretty happy. Now I can learn it, use it to model the photo project, maybe even get good enough to teach it next year. And I still don't need Windows.

Only got as far as getting it installed and the registry keys changed so it wouldn't crash on start up last night. Tonight will be going through tutorials. It seems like a lot of effort for accomplishing a short term goal (model a box), but I really really really did not like the technical drawing class I took as an undergrad. This way, I get to put the image in my head on to a screen and tweak away until I'm happy. Ctrl-Z is way better than any eraser.

This has gotten way outdated

So it has been ten months since my last post. Disgraceful. In my defense, I have gotten quite a bit done in that time. Not a bad rationalization, but truthfully I haven't felt like I had much to say. There's enough crap on the intertubes without me blathering on about nothing.

Anyway, I need to work on some creative stuff. I have a photo/installation idea in mind to make up for the lack of right-brain activities over the past, oh, seven or eight years. Also have an idea on finishing the hexagram generator and making a nice front end for it. I need to do something in interface design. It's the bridge between work and fun and I haven't been able to do any in awhile.

What else is going on? I have a motorcycle sitting on a charger, begging to be ridden, and one in pieces, begging to not be in pieces any more. With the long weekend coming up, I may be able to work a little on both providing my significant other gets through wisdom tooth extraction without too much pain. What oral surgeon thinks it's a good idea to pull teeth on a three day weekend?
